Hey readers!
Some thoughts about the recent episodes of Imposters:
Meeting Maddie's family seemed to be the opposite of what we expected. She was portrayed to grow up in a small, humble house as an only child. She was barely active or participatory in high school, and seemed to have no real connections outside of her small family. I have a few interesting thoughts on her family, though. Her mom had photographs and barely heard from Maddie, and she only came home for Christmas. Maddie's mom did not seem like the most loving, but she definitely cared, and her hardness may have come from the fact that Maddie was not there anymore. Most involved mothers, and I'm just speaking from the experience I've had with my mom, would not be fine with only hearing from their children in emails and settle for obviously photoshopped pictures. My purpose in pointing all of this out is that I have a suspicion that Maddie's family may know what's going on, and even be a part of the conning. Maddie's dad having dementia seems a little too convenient, as no one would expect a not fully-functioning member of society to be the head of such a large operation. Even if her family is not involved at all and her mother really is oblivious, I wonder if her father's dementia is how she came in contact with the Doctor. Since we learned earlier that the Doctor actually practices and operates, she could have come in contact with him if her father was a patient of the Doctor's.
In episode 5 we see more of Lenny Cohen after Sally is forced to murder Gary Heller. In this episode, Maddie seems to be more distraught than we have ever seen her, even after all of the drama she dealt with during the run in with Patrick and Gary. She handled all of Gary's anger with grace and was in the middle of attempting to get back on his good side when she found him dead and Sally crouching, covered in blood with a pile of money. Sally tries to run, but is eventually caught at the end of the episode and shows us what happens if someone is caught disobeying the Doctor. I think this episode serves as proof of what the Doctor is capable of, and what kind of control he has over people. Even after Max confesses his love for Sally, he turns against her and continues to work for the Doctor. I suspect that once you're in with the Doctor, you can never be out. Those are all my thoughts for now.

Your analysis of episode 4 entirely blows my mind, I wasn't even thinking that her home family would be in on the cons. Although I don't think I agree with that idea. It could be possible that the doctor has some dirt on Maddie's family and that her mother's hardness as you put it was because of that dirt.
